Waterproof and powerful, it has 2 extremely useful functions: - DSC (ASN in French) - An AIS receiver (reception of AIS signals) The Gx2200 offers an optional waterproof voice carrier (STH - MLS300) with a power of 300w for active listening at all times. DSC TECHNOLOGY: In French ASN (Appel Specifique Numérique), this system is designed to allow the emergency services to receive a distress signal, in the event of very rough seas or a technical problem on the boat. The DSC works like a relay. You send a distress signal via your VHF, using a clearly visible alert button, and this is sent over the wave system up to 25 nautical miles (about 45 km) around the boat. All the boats receiving the signal are then able to relay it, so that it reaches the emergency services. Each boat has a unique identifier called MMSI, in French Maritime Mobile Service Identity. This is made up of 9 digits. The VHF GX2200 is equipped with a GPS antenna, which also allows emergency services to locate your position precisely. AIS TECHNOLOGY: AIS technology works in a network with other AIS devices. It allows you to visualize mainly sea professionals around your position (Merchant ships, ferries, fishing vessels, etc...), and to be visible to them. The main advantage is to be able to be visible (AIS transponder) and see other boats (AIS receiver or transponder) hidden behind obstacles or bad weather conditions, detect their position and their maneuvers. You will also be able to communicate and receive precise information. The VHF GX2200 is equipped with an AIS receiver, which allows it to receive signals from other boats.
