Matting additives can be added to both International finishes and varnishes; and depending on the mix ratio between the product and the additive, a variety of gloss, satin or matt effects can be achieved. International produces two types of matting additive, suitable for use with either the two-part or one-part products in the range. This type is suitable for single pack products. Application by brush, roller, conventional spray (professional spray application only). Method Follow the surface preparation instructions shown on the label of the finish or varnish to which the Matting Additive is being added. Stir individual products prior to mixing. The level of gloss will decrease where the amount of Matting Additive is increased. The opacity of the chosen finish will be affected once the clear Matting Additive is added. Apply the standard finish first and finish off with the mixed (matted) material as a last coat, or apply multiple coats until full opacity is achieved. Stir well before use. Hints Mixing GUIDELINES ARE AS FOLLOWS: Toplac: 25% addition of the Matting Additive by volume to achieve up to a 30% reduction in gloss 50% addition of the Matting Additive by volume to achieve up to a 80% reduction in gloss 75% addition of the Matting Additive by volume to achieve up to a 95% reduction in gloss For large areas, ensure full required volume of matted paint is mixed prior to commencing application. Matt appearance may vary with colour. Thinner YTA800 Thinners No.1 Thinning Matting Additive may be thinned by 5% prior to mixing with Topcoat or Varnish. Use Thinners No.1. Conventional Spray (Professional spray application only) Pressure: 3-4 bar. Tip Size: 1.1-1.4 mm. For spray application of matted 1-pack varnishes or finishes, follow instructions on the datasheet for the product in question. Other The addition of Matting Additive to a finish or varnish will not affect the drying or overcoating characteristics of the product. It will not affect the durability of the finished surface. As with all the types of reduced-gloss coatings, the resulting finish will not have the same stay-clean properties as a full-gloss coating. If all the mixed (matted) material is not used it may be used at a later date. Simply stir well before use. Testing on a non-critical area should be carried out prior to full-scale application. Formulated for exterior use. Product temperature should be minimum 15°C/60°F and maximum 30°C/86°F. Ambient temperature should be minimum 5°C/41°F and maximum 35°C/95°F. Substrate temperature should be minimum 5°C/41°F and maximum 35°C/95°F. International Matting Agent TDS International Matting Agent MSDS
